Tradisi Pacu Itiak dalam Melestarikan Nilai-Nilai Budaya di Payakumbuh

Abstract

The pacu itiak tradition is one of the traditions that is popular with the people of Payakumbuh city. This tradition creates a kind of learning of cultural values, for example the values of honesty, patriotism, competition, harmony, cooperation and entertainment. In fact, spectators and the public not only enjoy the pacu itiak competition as an entertainment event but also make the itiak racing competition an arena for gambling or betting. This research aims to describe the values of the pacu itiak tradition in the Aur Kuning sub-district, South Payakumbuh District, Payakumbuh City, then describe the obstacles in implementing the cultural values in the Pacu itiak tradition and describe the efforts made to preserve the cultural values in the pacu itiak tradition. Obstacles in the pacu itiak tradition include conflicts between participants and the committee in the pacu itiak tradition and low public awareness in interpreting the values contained. Efforts are made to preserve cultural values in the pacu itiak tradition by participating in activities in the context of preserving the tradition, socializing to the public that the pacu itiak tradition is a unique phenomenon that deserves to be preserved and maintain its authenticity. This research concludes that the values contained in the pacu itiak tradition have been implemented but are not yet optimal.
